If you are planning on going for a hike in Kananaskis Country you will most likely stumble upon the Barrier Lake Visitor Center.

Upon arrival, you see the classic timber frame building, but the moment you enter the building you are pleasantly surprised by the playful updated design. The interior pays respect to existing design features while pushing the boundaries with dynamic timbers, playful graphic elements, and unexpected design details.

When redesigning, we took inspiration from the local environment and added interesting paint transitions, angled timber work and a unique sunken “forest” seating area to add some edge to the existing space. Altogether, these elements create a great space for users to gather, learn and explore!
